Introduction

Census School District Areas are the legal and statistical boundaries of public school districts. The US Census Bureau collects information about school districts in partnership with state education officials to support spatial and demographic analyses. The boundaries of school districts are updated annually through the School District Review Program (SDRP) to ensure accuracy. A school district's boundaries may overlap or not align with other geographic areas like counties or census tracts. Each of Alabama's 67 counties has a district, and in addition there are 72 city school districts and two military school districts.

The map and table below give geographic and demographic data on Alabama's 141 School District Areas. For the Low Grade field, KG refers to kindergarten and PK to pre-kindergarten. The land and water areas are given in square miles. Population refers to the total population in the district, not the student population.
