County Subdivisions

Introduction

County subdivisions are the legal or statistical divisions of a county used by the US Census Bureau to present data. They include both legally defined Minor Civil Divisions (MCDs), such as towns and townships, and statistical entities called Census County Divisions (CCDs), which are created in states, like Alabama, without well-defined MCDs. These subdivisions, along with unorganized territories, help ensure complete data coverage across the country. CCDs are statistical areas created by the Census Bureau in cooperation with state and local officials. CCDs have no legal status and are defined to represent cohesive community areas for data collection and analysis.

The map and table below give geographic data on Alabama's 390 CCDs. The land and water areas are given in square miles.
