Area Landmarks

Introduction

Census Area Landmarks are specific geographic features, such as parks, cemeteries, and shopping centers, that the US Census Bureau uses to locate special features and aid in fieldwork. They are used much like Point Landmarks, except that area landmarks refer to features that cover a geographic area.

The map and table below give geographic data on the 679 named Area Landmarks in Alabama. There are many more unnamed area landmarks. The land and water areas are given in square miles.
